A Guide to Destination Weddings in Port Douglas

Getting married should be a spectacular celebration, so why not host it in one of Australia’s most spectacular locations? If you’ve been thinking about a destination wedding in Port Douglas, here are five reasons why there’s no better choice than getting married in our Far North Queensland paradise.

1. ENDLESS SUMMER

There’s no need to travel overseas for your tropical escape. Port Douglas enjoys plenty of sunshine, deliciously warm days and balmy nights all year round.

At 16 degrees south of the Equator, our beautiful tropical climate can be compared to that of South Pacific islands such as Vanuatu, Fiji and Tahiti.

Winter doesn’t exist, with Port Douglas experiencing only two seasons – the ‘dry season’ and the ‘green season’.

From May through to October, the Dry Season sees warm, sunny days and temperatures ranging 17 – 26 degrees. Even in winter, the water is a divine 23 degrees, perfect for a dip in the Coral Sea or snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef.

With the summer months comes the Green Season, starting around November and finishing by May, where you’ll soak up the heat during the day and refreshing tropical showers at night. The temperature rarely dips below 23 degrees (with daily highs around 31), so pack lightly.

Marine stingers love the warm tropical water along the North Queensland Coast during the summer season, so be sure to stay within the protective enclosure at Four Mile Beach or laze about your hotel pool.

2. RELAXED VIBES

Leave your cares at home and imbue your wedding day with the relaxed holiday vibes Port Douglas is famous for. It may be one of the biggest days of your life, but it’s hard to be stressed when you have your toes in the sand, a cocktail in hand and fluffy white robe waiting for you back at the hotel room.

Elegantly casual, Port Douglas is known for its distinct mix of sophistication and barefoot fun. It’s where you can go from beach to bar, and from sunset sail to sumptuous seafood feast. Adventure and activity opportunities abound but you’re also welcome to sit back on your pool lounge and watch it all roll by.
